What is NEmation! ?

N.E.mation! is a competition for youths to express their notions on Total Defence through animation.

Encouraged by the success of the five TD animation clips featured in the National Day Rally in 2006, Nexus has organised N.E.mation! since 2007 to provide a creative platform for students to express their personal ideas about Total Defence.

Last year, N.E.mation! III received 560 submission entries from secondary schools, junior colleges and centralised institutes in Singapore, more than doubled from the previous season’s 219 submissions.

To date, almost 3,200 students have participated in N.E.mation! and the numbers are expected to grow in future. Students with no prior experience in animation were given training to equip themselves with skills to convert their stories into one-minute animation clips for public viewing and voting. The winners of the competition were determined by a combination of public voting and judging by a panel including industry professionals. The winning clips were then screened island-wide on free-to-air television and some were honoured at international film awards.

This year in N.E.mation! 4, students were asked to use their creativity to produce storylines centred around the theme of "Why I Care About Singapore". The animation clips of the top ten finalist teams will be judged by industry professionals such as Raman Hui (Animation Supervisor, DreamWorks Animation SKG). In addition, the public can vote for their three favourite clips come January 2010 at www.nemation.sg or via SMS. The winning team will win a coveted trip to visit DreamWorks Animation in the USA!
